Can You Actually Earn Reasonable Money from Mechanical Turk?
Over the past week, I have been asking myself about Amazon’s Mechanical Turk service, and whether I can actually earn any money with it. Exactly what id Mechanical Turk all about? For those of you asking this is a service from Amazon where you can perform simple tasks called HITS (Short for human intelligence tasks) The premise is that many tasks can best be completed by a human rather than a pc. Tasks available can be anywhere from reviewing products and websites all the way to writing articles, and answering simple questions. The tasks that are available range from the simple to the complex and pay anywhere from $0.01 to $30.00 or more. The only issue is that individual tasks are not lucrative in and of themselves but when couple with multiple assignments given your amount of free time you can actually earn some decent money. In just this past week I have earned $30.00 writing street reviews for Streetadvisor.com and reviewing websites such as peerpong.com. The Streetadvisor tasks paid $7.50 a hit and they give you a day or so to complete. The task is to review 10 streets in an area that you are familiar with. Each review of individual streets must be a minimum of 100 words. If you can do one or two a day you can make some decent pocket money. I do it to be able to buy the books that I read and review for this site. If you have a desk job and some down time this site may be ideal for you. I don't see any tax implications because you must earn over a certain amount with each requestor to be deemed taxable income.
Head over to the Mechanical Turk website, sign up, and set aside an some time to try to earn some money there.
Here are several things I discovered that can help someone interested in Mechanical Turk earn more money.
1. Write comprehensible stuff quickly. Time is money. If you can immediately begin to write something readable on a topic, you can do fairly well.
2. Stay away from the low-cost tasks as they simply aren’t worth it. If you can’t finish a $0.50 task in four minutes, you’re earning less than minimum wage.
3. Test tasks are bread winners so to speak and will unlock other well paying tasks.
4. Patience is a virtue. If you don’t see anything you like - just hit refresh a few times. Decent opportunities come up all the time, but are quickly taken. Hitting refresh helps you with getting the better Turk tasks.
